A week earlier, Sean Tate came to Roxborough High School to check out the web class. I was really excited to meet him. I was able to show my school animation to him and he was amazed and gave me a good compliment with my work. With that, my web teacher invited him to come and speak for the Spring Showcase (which is an annual event where students from web and cinematography, well, show off their works). So with that, this gave me a chance to make him a fanart for his project “Oh! Snap.”
“Oh! Snap” is about a gang of pirates who go on adventures traveling around the world selling hair and skin cosmetics. They have only got out the first volume of the series and the second one is still in development and will be released next year. They are also planning on turning “Oh! Snap” into an animated series, possibly fro Cartoon Network. Jazz, the leader of the crew, uses a katana unlike most pirates who use a silver marine cutlass sword. Griff is a veteran pirate who uses an illegally modified hair drier as his weapon. Kiki the little monkey girl is the pilot of the ship. Bob is a machine originally designed for combat, but later turned into a maintenance robot. (And I do apologize if I drew Bob wrong. I can’t find any more reference about this character and I never drawn a robot before.) Lastly, Molly, the black sheep, is just Molly.
I have this silly idea where The Good Ol’ Days characters meet Oh! Snap. Folly bought one of Jazz’s hair products, which…eehhh gave her a new hairdo. Mari shows disapproval with their product and goes to confront them face-to-face. I hope for the future, I can have the chance to do guest star animation with one of my project. I still have time to think about it.

H-hello. If you don’t mind, can you give me some feedback on this work? I’m practicing on realism and I’m having trouble on the shading. I’m also worried about the face structure. Any helpful tips? Thank you :)

Practising realistic facial proportions and structure is always a good challenge for any artist! However, using a character with a lot of hair around the face and also paint it in profile view might not be the best choice for exercising the things you’ve mentioned.
I suggest you study the facial planes. Here’s some links to good examples of the facial planes: 1, 2 aand 3
- Mirre
I’d also like to add that you should watch out where the light is coming from! having a more specific lighting will help with forming the structure a lot more. Right now it seems a little random and all over the place. see how the light’s hitting from the side but it’s also on top of her nose in the same value? try to tone the lighting on the nose down (especially cause you have hair practically covering the light on that part). I’d also like to say that it might help to actually study from photos when practicing to draw realistically. I personally learn a lot when I do a photo-study.

How did I miss this? Thank you guys. I’ll keep this in mind the next time I do realism.

Made myself a height comparison sheet for The Good Ol’ Days characters.
Height and names are finals, but I’m not sure with the designs. Especially Mari. Can’t decide if I should give her a long of short skirt.
But anyways, I’m happy with this so far.

Made myself a male body reference for The Good Ol’ Days. I’m not use to drawing males, especially with abs, muscles and ahh…g-groin. I admit. I’m use to drawing females since mostly in my life drawing classes, all models are females.
Ahem, anyways, have any tips or maybe any tutorials that might help?

scribghetti-junction:

Wherein Gemma had the sudden urge to randomly draw a bunch of OCs belonging to friends and acquaintances. Some fared better than others.
I’ll update this image with a scanned/cleaned up version tomorrow. Must sleep now.

When I went to check on Tumblr, this was the first ting I saw on my dashboard and… the only thing I’ve done is squealing,  jumping, and rolling on the floor. LITERALLY!
Gosh, thank you for making my night Gemma!
